History

UMC ReTech a division of Universal Mfg. Co. is a leading supplier of OEM quality remanufactured and new aftermarket products. Founded in 1946, we have invested more than seventy years in engineering problem solving solutions for automotive drivetrain, brake and fuel systems from our USA based ISO9001 facility.

During World War II, when shipments of Allied defense materials monopolized the U.S. rail system, Ford Motor Company offered selected Ford Dealerships the opportunity to become authorized engine remanufacturers in the interest of reducing the use of rail transportation to ship remanufactured engines. One of those forward thinking entrepreneurs was Fred Kent, Sr., an Algona, Iowa car dealer.

At one time Universal Mfg. Co.’s operation included the remanufacturing of 19 different product lines for Ford Motor Company. As Ford began the reduction in outside remanufacturing of its product, UMC ReTech expanded its distribution operation and established a separate operation to perform these services as an authorized Ford Distributor.

This new line of products, distributed under the ReTech® brand, were not tied to Ford and permitted UMC ReTech to develop an entirely new network of customers and distributors. In 2007 the formal relationship with Ford was ended with the sale of the Ford Authorized distribution business. The ReTech line of remanufactured automotive products includes brake calipers, transfer cases, transfer case shift motors and front differentials.

In 2008 a new line of Twice Tested™ electric fuel pumps was introduced. These are distributed under UMC ReTech®’s UMC-OER+™ brand. Each pump is Twice Tested, once during production and again prior to shipment, to ensure 100% turnkey operation out of the box.

Today, UMC ReTech continues to seek out and develop additional product lines, OER+ product enhancements, and problem solving solutions to deliver to the automotive aftermarket and our distributors.
